Flexible and Reduced Fees

Makara Mediations recognises that not every dispute can be approached on a standard commercial fee basis.

Reduced fees or alternative fee arrangements may be available in appropriate circumstances, including for:

- community organisations and not-for-profit organisations;

- charities;

- individuals experiencing financial hardship;

- public interest matters;

- matters involving vulnerable parties;

- early-career professionals or practitioners seeking access to mediation services;

- educational or professional development purposes; and

- other matters considered appropriate on a case-by-case basis.

Pro bono or substantially reduced-fee services may also be offered at Makara Mediations' discretion, subject to availability and suitability.

Additional Services

Additional fees may apply for services outside the standard mediation process, including:

- pre-mediation conferences;

- additional preparation or review of substantial documentation;

- complex or multi-party disputes;

- mediations requiring significant travel;

- mediations extending beyond the agreed mediation period; and

- preparation of additional reports or documents where specifically requested.

Any additional fees will be discussed and agreed with the relevant party before the additional work is undertaken wherever practicable.

Special Fee Arrangements

We are happy to discuss alternative fee arrangements where appropriate. Depending on the circumstances, these may include:

- fixed fees;

- capped fees;

- staged fees;

- reduced hourly rates;

- block bookings;

- repeat-client rates; or

- other agreed arrangements.

Fees will be discussed with the parties before a mediation is confirmed. A written fee agreement or confirmation of the applicable fees may be provided before the mediation.

Terms & Conditions

Makara Mediations reserves the right to review and update its fees from time to time. Fees applicable to a particular mediation will be confirmed at the time of engagement. GST will be charged in addition to the fees stated above.

Cancellation and Rescheduling

Cancellation and Rescheduling

Cancellation and rescheduling fees may apply where a mediation is cancelled or postponed after it has been confirmed, particularly where preparation has been undertaken or the mediator's time has been reserved.

Travel and Expenses

Any applicable cancellation or rescheduling fee will depend on the circumstances and will be communicated at the time of booking.

Additional reasonable expenses will apply where a mediation requires travel outside the mediator's usual service area. Any significant travel costs or other expenses will be discussed and agreed in advance.
